Exciting news and a book review

The purpose of this post is two fold. One, I am happy to report that I think I have finally broken through my writer’s block, and two, I want to write about some of the books that helped me get through it.

First, this year I’ve been having the worst motivational block I’ve ever had with writing. Now, I’m back it! I’m editing my novel, writing short stories, and brainstorming for NANO. It feels good to be back in the thick of it.

How did I finally get through my writer’s block? I think it was a combination of patience, making myself work on things (even when I didn’t want to), and reading. I always read a lot, but I feel like the books I’ve read this year have gotten me out of my slump.

Reading is super important as a writer. I find it inspiring and motivating. I also believe it is essential for a writer to read current things from their genre. It lets you know what is expected of you, but also gives you an idea of what else is being created right now.

And that brings me to two books that have helped me out of my writer’s slump.

Both books are by Travis Baldree. If you haven’t read them yet, and you enjoy fantasy, go read them now. Of course, the two books I’m talking about are Legends and Lattes & Bookshops and Bonedust.

Of all the genres I read, I read fantasy the most. These two books are the epitome of cozy fantasy reads. And that is exactly what I needed. They are set in a D&D like world, but they are wholesome and heartwarming.

Not only that but they prove that you can write about something that has been written about ALOT and still find something new and fun to write about. They aren’t about combat (at least not only) and lore and epic battles. They are about individuals and doing the right thing and helping friends in need.

I love them both so much! I love a fantasy book that aren’t all doom and gloom and high stakes battles. Don’t get me wrong, I read those too, but sometimes it’s nice to have something that sheds light into the world from the beginning to the end.

I can’t recommend these enough.

Happy reading and writing today and every day!
