A New Favorite!

If you’re like me, you pretty much like most books you read. That’s not saying that every book is my favorite, but I rarely regret reading a book.

That being said, I do have a handful of favorites. Before this month, my five favorite books haven’t changed in around 20 years.

Here they are:

  1. Frankenstein
  2. Mrs. Dalloway
  3. Heart of Darkness
  4. White Teeth
  5. Little Women

However, this month I read a book that has broken the top five. I don’t know which one would drop away, but I have a new favorite! This is very exciting for me (it does’t happen very often).

If you read fantasy, you might have read it before. It’s not even a new book. I cannot believe I haven’t read it till now. It’s just amazing!

You’re probably wondering if I’m ever going to say what the book is…

Sabriel by Garth Nix!

Sabriel cover

I loved it within the first ten pages. I wish I could read it again.

I realize it’s part of a series, so at least there are more adventures in this world to read about!

Some of the reasons I love it:

  1. Necromancy – it felt like a very unique take on a magic system using necromancy in this story.
  2. So many moments that were about peril! It was high octane!
  3. The story grabbed me from page one. The main character draws you in. The story isn’t filled with inane details or backstory.
  4. Mostly though, I could reread this book again and again and would feel the same way.

If you don’t believe me, read it.

Happy reading and writing today and every day!
