If you’re like me, you pretty much like most books you read. That’s not saying that every book is my favorite, but I rarely regret reading a book.
That being said, I do have a handful of favorites. Before this month, my five favorite books haven’t changed in around 20 years.
Here they are:
- Frankenstein
- Mrs. Dalloway
- Heart of Darkness
- White Teeth
- Little Women
However, this month I read a book that has broken the top five. I don’t know which one would drop away, but I have a new favorite! This is very exciting for me (it does’t happen very often).
If you read fantasy, you might have read it before. It’s not even a new book. I cannot believe I haven’t read it till now. It’s just amazing!
You’re probably wondering if I’m ever going to say what the book is…
Sabriel by Garth Nix!

I loved it within the first ten pages. I wish I could read it again.
I realize it’s part of a series, so at least there are more adventures in this world to read about!
Some of the reasons I love it:
- Necromancy – it felt like a very unique take on a magic system using necromancy in this story.
- So many moments that were about peril! It was high octane!
- The story grabbed me from page one. The main character draws you in. The story isn’t filled with inane details or backstory.
- Mostly though, I could reread this book again and again and would feel the same way.
If you don’t believe me, read it.
Happy reading and writing today and every day!
