August 2025 Prompt

It’s that time of the month again! That’s right — time to write a short story!

This month’s prompt was one I originally used in January 2020, which seems like a long, long time ago. And it resulted in a story that I always meant to go back to and maybe expand into something longer (it could still happen).

Either way, here is the prompt for this month:

I stopped for a breath before cutting the turkey. I wanted to appreciate the moment. Seeing everyone there, sitting around the table, almost felt like we were a family again. But if we had been a real family…

I’m not sure where I’m going with this one yet, but like all my stories this year, I’m trying to write something different than the first time I used the prompt. I’ll need to put my thinking cap on.
