It’s almost a new year, and that means a new reading goal. My goal this year was 52 books, which is the highest I’ve ever set my goal. I’m happy to say that I surpassed my goal and I’ve read 62 books! There is still time, and it’s possible that I’ll read one or two more but the next few weeks are busy.
Here is what I’ve read this year, plus some small comments/highlights:
- Good Vibes, Good Life by Vex King
- Alex and Me by Irene M. Pepperberg
- Breakfast at Tiffany’s and Three Stories by Truman Capote
- The Wild Robot by Peter Brown
- The Burning House by Ann Beattie
- Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell
- The Curator by Owen King
- I loved this book. I don’t know what genre to call it exactly, which means it’s a part of my favorite genre — the weird tale! This strange and complex story is one of my top reads of this year.
- Silver Under Nightfall by Rin Chupeco
- Wayside School Beneath the Cloud of Dooms by Louis Sachar
- Kill the Farm Boy by Delilah S. Dawson
- Upgrade by Blake Crouch
- Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi
- The Color of Revenge by Cornelia Funke
- Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom by Cory Doctorow
- A Tempest of Tea by Hafsah Faizal
- James by Percival Everett
- This book is great. It retells Mark Twain’s characters from Jim’s perspective. Read it!
- Divided Allegiance by Elizabeth Moon
- Starling House by Alix E. Harrow
- House of Frank by Kay Sinclaire
- This is a cozy, heart warming story about grief. I cannot express how much I loved this book.
- A Second Chance by Jodi Taylor
- Night of Demons and Saints by Menna Van Praag
- The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson
- There is a reason so many books, movies, and shows are based on this. This is classic master horror story telling by one of the best. I loved it.
- Mr. Monster by Dan Wells
- A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas
- I admit it, I didn’t want to like this, but I read it because I wanted to see what the fuss was about. Romance is not something I read often. And in the end, I liked it. I’m going to read the second as well.
- A Venom Dark and Sweet by Judy Lin
- Dexter is Delicious by Jeff Lindsay
- Fourteen Days by Margaret Atwood
- Chew Volume 4 by John Layman
- The Sinister Booksellers of Bath by Garth Nix
- Unravel Me by Tahereh Mafi
- Greenglass House by Kate Milford
- Sabriel by Garth Nix
- I adore this book. It’s now one of my top five books of all time, which is a tall order for me. I wish I read this sooner. I plan to read the next book soon.
- The Last Graduate by Naomi Novik
- The House on Vesper Sands by Paraic O’Donnell
- I don’t read a lot of mystery, but this one caught my eye. I thought it was brilliant. I will be reading more from this author.
- How to Stop Time by Matt Haig
- Blasphemy by Sherman Alexie
- Dragonflight by Anne McCaffrey
- Firefly Legacy Book 2 by Joss Whedon
- House of Leaves by Mark Danielewski
- Someone You can Build a Nest In by John Wiswell
- The Writer by Ben Berkowitz
- The Golden Enclaves by Naomi Novik
- The Vanishing Stair by Maureen Johnson
- Thunderhead by Neal Shusterman
- Persepolis Volume 2 by Marjane Satrapi
- Child of Earth Sky by Menna Van Praag
- A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J Maas
- Jaws by Peter Benchley
- Shark movies are some of my favorite movies, so I’ve been meaning to read this for a long time. It was great. Very 70s. Also, not the same as the movie. The introduction by his wife explains why the script was changed. I really enjoyed this.
- The Secret of Secrets by Dan Brown
- Batman The Court of Owls Saga by Scott Snyder
- The Dragon and the George by Gordon Dickson
- Tender is the Flesh by Agustina Bazterrica
- Godzilla vs Mighty Morphin Power Rangers
- Dark Knight Returns The Golden Child
- Can’t Spell Treason without Tea by Rebecca Thorne
- Still Life by Louise Penny
- I read this because I love the show on Amazon Prime based on this book series. And, no surprise, the book was better. I will be reading more of these. Maybe someday I’ll read mystery regular. This author would make my list.
- This Vicious Cure by Emily Suvada
- Chew : Final Volume
- The Hand on the Wall by Maureen Johnson
- Practical Demonology by Clare Rees
- Pines by Blake Crouch
- Oath of Gold by Elizabeth Moon
All in all, it was a very good reading year. Looking forward to next year and more books!
Happy reading and writing today and every day!
