I read five more books this month, and here are my brief thoughts on them…

- Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck
- I honestly cannot understand how I have a Master’s in Literature and have never been assigned this book. So, my high school child read it for her book club and I added it to my to read list and let it jump the line. I get why this is a classic. It’s also a very short read, so if you need a fast enjoyable read, I would recommend this one.
- Strange Pictures by Uketsu
- I picked this up because I liked the cover. It was awesome. It tells a series of interwoven stories that are mysteries, and the author adds in pictures that give clues to the mysteries. I read this in one day. Super fast and enjoyable read. I went out and bought the next two already.
- Self-Editing for Fiction Writers by Browne and King
- I’m not sure how helpful I find this book. Maybe as a refresher for things to help me edit, but overall I think this book simplified several very complicated topics. The best advice that seemed to be missing is that you need an editor. Self-editing is wicked hard.
- The Anthropocene Reviewed by John Green
- In a rare turn of events, I read two non-fiction books this month! I loved this one though. It’s a random bunch of reviews. He discusses everything from Mario Kart to a ginkgo tree in his neighborhood. It was fun and enjoyable, and I actually felt like I learned some things along the way. In the end, I would give it five stars.
- The Word is Murder by Anthony Horowitz
- Horowitz is one of the few mystery writers I read regularly. In this one, which is the first of a series, he (the author) is a character in the book. I thought it was going to be silly, but I was wrong. It was a great mystery!
I hope you are having a great start to summer!
Happy reading and writing today and every day!
